Optometrists
Optometrists play an important role in examining patients' eyes, test their sight, give advice on visual problems and prescribe and fit spectacles or contact lenses when needed. The post holder will be responsible for participating and strengthening community outreach programs. S/he will also co-ordinate with Front Office, OPD and Reception Staff to manage patient flow and reduce patient waiting time.
Key Task and responsibilities:
- Undertaking continuing education and training.
- Provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.
- Perform routine refraction, IOP, Perimetry, Keratometry, Biometry, Orthoptc Evaluation, Orthoptic Exercise, Squint Evaluation and Diplopia charting.
- Training & orientation of school teachers, community volunteers and vision technician staff of various projects
- Proactively participate in planning and organising of eye camps and counsel patients to uptake surgical and refraction services of SGLEH.
- Attend tele-ophthalmology screening camps and perform eye examination/tele-conference for treating patients.
- Treat patients with respect and ensure they receive high quality services.
- Ensure the consistent application of rules/regulations of the hospital to maintain standards and promote equity and fairness.
- Responsible for other duties as designated by the Senior Optometrist
- Communicating with patients to get detailed case histories;
- Examining the eyes of patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, abnormality or vision defects;
- Checking for signs and symptoms of general health conditions (e.g. diabetes);
- Using specialist equipment for diagnosis and testing;
- Issuing prescriptions for spectacles or contact lenses;
- Fitting and checking prescribed lenses in order to correct vision defects;
- Offering advice and reassurance about vision-related matters;
- Offering help and advice for patients choosing frames and lenses;
- Writing referral communications to doctors.
